I was a "Base Brat" so my parents shopped at CANEX when I was growing up. My story takes place in 1987 just after I had joined the Canadian Forces as was a young Private posted to my first Base, CFB Greenwood. Of course, I lived in the barracks and now that actually had some money, I wanted to buy myself a TV. I went over to the CANEX to see what they had available. I looked at a Sony TV and decided I was going to purchase it on the payment plan. The CANEX clerk told me if I waited a week, the TV was going on sale and the price would be $100.00 lower. Back then, that was quite a chunk of a Private's take home pay, so, of course, I waited and purchased the TV after the sale started. What makes this story even better, is that not long afterwards, I was in Halifax at one of the malls and saw the same TV at The Sony store. The price there was more than what the TV had been before the sale. Over the years, I have made several other CANEX purchases, usually through their great payment plan; our fridge and stove, when they were no longer provided by Base Housing and most recently, a gorgeous, six piece bedroom set. But it's that TV purchase when I was a young soldier, that I recall the best.

Good Day. I have bought every TV at CANEX since I was 20. I also used the CANEX plan to buy my first snowblower...awesome plan. Without that plan I would still be digging out.

My wife and I relyed on other companies when we purchased big ticketed items, then one day I said to her that we could give CANEX a try. We did and i'll tell you the store was everything and more. They had the items we wanted and contary to popular belief, the price was almost the same or in many cases cheaper and the staff is second to none where ever you go in canada. Keep up the great work and never shut your doors because a lot of dnd members rely on you. THANK YOU...

I have been wanting a HDTV for quite some time but just couldnt afford it. I was going through a divorce and money was tight. Then I saw CANEX having a sale on 50 HDTV's so I scooted in. I told my girlfriend about the super buy you were having and she said that if the payments would be less than $40 per month, we were golden. Come to find out, the payments were barely over $30 so I filled out the forms and I am now the proud owner of my very own 50" HDTV television. Merry Christmas to me!!

I can remember my first exposure to CANEX as a recruit at CFB CORNWALLIS in 1980. We were only given specific timings that were permitted to go to the CANEX as a Platoon and we had to march everywhere we went. One thing that I do remember was the kindness extended to us by the CANEX staff as well as the relaxing atmosphere we were provided. There we were able to relax from the hectic Recruit Training schedule and sit down and enjoy a meal away from the mess hall food if we wanted. Ask most of those serving who were Recruits in Cornwallis, the CANEX was a refuge for Recruits and provided everything that we needed to help us get by during our training. To this day, my family and I still shop and take in all that the CANEX has to offer military families. Very soon, one of my own children will be going through the training process to become a serving member of the Canadian Forces. It makes me feel proud as a parent, and I am confident that the CANEX will soon be providing service to yet another generation of serving Canadian Forces members.

What does the CANEX mean to me? Family, supporting the troops and great deals. I finally convinced my parents to move to Kingston, so my mother could receive her cancer treatment locally, and we furnished their home from the CANEX almost entirely. Now when I go visit my parents my mom curls up in the beautiful arm chair we bought her while my dad lays out on his new chaise. It was convenient, a great deal and helped make the transition for my parents fun and a little bit easier. Even today, my parents make a regular trip to the CANEX to see what is new and what great deals they have to offer. Thank you for being there!
