Diversity and Employment Equity

|
In December 2006, MGen Langton, CEO of the then CFPSA, co-sponsored the first joint DND/CF/NPF International Day for Persons with Disabilities in the National Capital Region. The objective of this event was to raise awareness of challenges faced by persons with disabilities and the tools available that allow them to participate more fully in the workplace and in their communities. Based on feedback and the level of interest and participation, as depicted in the photos, the event was a resounding success. It is anticipated that PFSS will continue to partner with DND/CF in future commemorative events, not only at the HQ level, but also in the field. Prior to 2003, the rate of return on Employment Equity self-identification forms was less than 15 per cent. As of January 2007, the return rate is 97 per cent and climbing. These returns allow PFSS to determine its workforce representation as compared to the Canadian labour force. The celebration of our diversity and the recognition and acceptance of differences should not be limited to organized events. You are encouraged to participate and share the vibrancy of a heterogeneous Canada and are challenged to take your experience a little further. To create a culture of inclusion, it’s important to recognize the contributions and talents of your employees/superiors/ colleagues and the value that they bring to the workplace, regardless of who they are. Take time to “discover” the people you work with for a better appreciation of why some may work, think or adopt an approach that is different from what you may expect. Explore and celebrate our diversity! We welcome your input and feedback. Please contact us at (613) 996-6717, or by e-mail at ee@cfpsa.com. Your confidentiality is assured. NPF employees appreciated the chance to interact and learn during the first joint DND/CF/NPF International Day for Persons with Disabilities in the National Capital Region.
